Sports Physiotherapy
Sports physiotherapy is a branch of physio that focuses on injuries related to sport. Sports injuries can range from acute traumatic injuries such as ankle sprains or ACL tears to chronic overuse injuries such as tennis elbow or achilles tendinopathy.
In sports physiotherapy, we assess the causes and other factors that lead to an injury. We assess movement biomechanics, strength, stability, and power to see if there are any deficiencies. Additionally, we investigate other factors such as training load, frequency, sleep, nutrition, and stress which could contribute to an athlete’s symptoms.
Our treatment consists of a wide range of techniques aimed at decreasing pain, improving recovery and reducing the time to return to play. Most importantly, we aim to provide strategies and exercises to prevent recurrence of injuries and to improve an athlete’s overall performance.
Our team of physiotherapists deal with a wide range of athletes, from rugby, basketball, dance, soccer, weightlifting, racquet sports, running, and more. We work with athletes of all levels from recreational weekend warrior to elite professional athletes. When you work with the team at Lexington Health, you can be assured that you will return to your activity with improved performance and full of confidence.

Women’s Health Physiotherapy
During pregnancy a wide variety of changes occur in a female’s body. Including, postural and biomechanical changes to accommodate the growing uterus, stretching of the abdominal wall leading to muscle weakness and increased tightening of the back & hip muscles.
Due to this, some females experience different aches and pain, movement loss, or pelvic floor dysfunction during pregnancy which can be successfully prevented and resolved with physiotherapy.
However, a women’s body is still going through changes up until 12 weeks post birth, longer for those breastfeeding. Various hormonal changes occur as the body starts moving from pregnancy hormone levels to re-balance. Postpartum, these changes may spontaneously resolve or persist for a few weeks to months.

Dry needling
The use of very fine needles which are inserted into muscle bellies to stimulate them to relax. If you have tension from an acute injury, overload injury, or stress, Dry needling can be helpful in reducing the muscular tension to reduce your pain, improve your movement, and stimulate blood flow.
In conjunction with an individualised exercise program, dry needling can be an effective modality to help facilitate your recovery.
Dry needling can be effective in treating musculoskeletal conditions such as shoulder pain, neck pain, low back pain, knee pain, tendinitis/tendinopathy, headaches, and tennis/golfer’s elbow.
